BECOME AN OFFICER IN THE GDF
To become an Officer in the Guyana Defence Force you must be between the ages of 18 to 25 years, and have five (5) subjects with grades 1 or 2 at one sitting or no less than 6 subjects with grades 1 or 2 at two sittings or a Technical Diploma. The Guyana Defence Force presently train its own Officers at the Colonel Ulric Pilgrim Officer Cadet School which was established on September 1981 and named after Colonel Ulric Pilgrim the first Local Commander of the Force. However, Officers are also trained at the Royal Military Academy (Sandhurst, UK)- Infantry Training and Royal Naval Academy (Darthmouth, UK)-Coast Guard Training. Training is also done in Brazil.
